Offshore Editorial is a small business run by Julie Starr from a base in
Auckland, New Zealand. It arranges editorial services such as proofreading
and sub-editing and Julie offers practical advice and management for digital
media projects.
About Julie Starr
Julie has a
background in radio and print journalism, having worked for 20 years in
the UK
and New Zealand as a radio presenter, reporter, layout
sub-editor, proofreader, chief
sub-editor, editorial process manager
and, more recently, a journalism teacher and conference presenter.
Julie
was a member of the core design and management team for
The Daily
Telegraph's integrated multmedia newsroom in London, working on the
project
from inception through development, pilot and rollout.
The
project focused both on developing the Telegraph's website,
telegraph.co.uk,
and integrating the website and print newspaper
operations into a single, multi-purpose newsroom. During this time
Julie gained considerable experience in workflow design and management,
re-engineering newsroom processes to meet the demands of multimedia,
multi-platform publishing, and change management.
Now back in her native New Zealand, Julie is Editor in Residence at the Wintec School of
Media Arts in Hamilton, teaches on the journalism programme at AUT University, blogs
about developments in news publishing online, gives presentations on
how social media affects journalism and communication, and takes
on project work.
