About
Julie Starr has worked in the media for more than 20 years in New Zealand and the UK, working in radio, newspapers and the web.
In that time she’s been a reporter, sub-editor, page layout sub, chief sub-editor, radio presenter, workflow specialist, change agent and editorial manager.
She has long experience in writing, sub-editing and producing daily newspapers in New Zealand (NZ Herald) and the UK (The Daily Telegraph) and was a key member of the team who designed and launched the Telegraph’s integrated web-and-print newsroom.
While there, she developed a strong and abiding interest in newsroom workflows and is available for consulting work on web-and-print integration projects.
Julie is one of the founders of the allaboutthestory.com, a marketplace which connects writers and editors and lets them do business with each other using simple online tools. It’s free and quick to sign up, post stories or cartoons for sale, and browse for stories and images to fill gaps in your pages. Registered buyers can buy and download what they want, when they want it, and get email and RSS updates when content is posted in areas that interest them. Have a look or follow us at @aboutthestory on Twitter.
She also teaches journalism and is managing the online offering of the National Diploma of Journalism in New Zealand for the Waikato Institute of Technology. This is the only industry-recognised entry level journalism course to be offered for students who want to keep working or stay at home with children while they study. The course runs for two years part-time and you can read more about it here.
Julie blogs about news and journalism at The Evolving Newsroom and you can find out more about her at LinkedIn.
